- Mike Rex

The Our Town map was illustrated by Mike Rex under the name of The Cartography Club of Williamsburg and Greenpoint. The map documents the cumulative environmental impacts of toxic Right-to-Know facilities, TRI facilities, and Waste Transfer Stations, incinerators and power plants, both proposed and existing.

  • Right-to-Know facility: A facility housing quantities of hazardous or toxic chemicals. The Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know act requires facilities subject to EPCRA to comply with preparedness planning, pollution prevention, emergency release notification and toxic chemical release inventory reporting. Learn more.

  • Toxic Release Inventory (TRI): TRI is a mandatory program to provide the public with information about releases of toxic chemicals in their community. Facilities that manufacture, process or otherwise use any of 767 significantly hazardous chemicals in amounts above established levels must submit annual reporting forms for each chemical. Learn more.

  • Waste Transfer Stations: facility where commercial and residential garbage is trucked in and temporarily stored before being taken to a landfill or other disposal site. Learn more
